The Short Version
We collect as little as we can get away with.
If you email us, we use your details to reply to you. If you buy something, we need enough information to send it to you and to keep a record for the tax office. If you are a client organisation, we hold the information needed to do the work and invoice for it.
We do not collect health information or diagnosis information through this website. We do not sell your information to anyone, ever. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email admin@joydiving.com.au.
Who We Are
This website is run by Joy Diving Australia Pty Ltd, ABN 25 670 330 720, a company registered in Australia. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean that company. Sarah Eagle is the person responsible for privacy questions.
We are a small business. Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), businesses under a certain turnover are not automatically bound by the Australian Privacy Principles. We have chosen to follow them anyway, because the people who read this site have often had their information handled carelessly before.
Contact us about anything on this page at admin@joydiving.com.au.
What We Collect, and Why
- When you email us Your name, your email address, your organisation if you choose to give it, and whatever you write in the message. Used to reply to you and to keep track of the conversation. Nothing else.
- When you book a conversation Bookings run through Doodle. Doodle collects your name, your email address and the time you pick, and passes it to us. Doodle handles that booking under its own privacy terms.
- When you buy a guide or a poster Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our website or our systems. We receive your name, your email address, what you bought and the amount, so we can send you the file and keep the record the tax office requires.
- When your organisation engages us Contact details for the people we work with, the notes and documents needed to do the work, and billing details. Invoices and scheduling are handled in Splose. Consulting reports describe work design and systems. They are not clinical records and they do not diagnose anyone.
- When you take part in a review or a workshop If you tell us something about yourself during a workplace review, we report themes and patterns to your employer, not names. What an individual worker said is not passed back in an identifiable form unless you have specifically asked us to and confirmed it in writing.
- When you simply visit the site Our host records standard technical information such as the pages requested, approximate location, browser type and time of visit. This is used to keep the site working and secure. We do not use it to identify you.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Some are needed to make a page work. Others watch what you do.
This site sets no cookies of its own. We do not run advertising cookies and we do not sell data to advertisers.
Some cookies arrive from things embedded in a page rather than from us directly. A YouTube video sets its own cookies as soon as it loads. Where that happens, the cookie is set by that company under its own terms.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything on this site.
| Cookie | Set by | Why it exists | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, VISITOR_PRIVACY_METADATA, YSC, ytidb::LAST_RESULT_ENTRY_KEY | YouTube | Set when an embedded video loads on the Keynote, talks and workshops page. Remembers your consent state, measures playback quality and counts views. | Session to 6 months |
| __Secure-YNID, __Secure-ROLLOUT_TOKEN, __Secure-YEC | YouTube | Security, fraud prevention and feature testing on the embedded video on the Keynote, talks and workshops page. | 6 months |

| Brevo | Newsletter signup | European Union |
| Substack | Publishes and sends Neurodivergent News | United States |

We also disclose information where the law requires it, such as to the tax office or in response to a court order. We will tell you if that happens, unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
Information Sent Overseas
Some of the services above store information outside Australia, mostly in the United States and the European Union. That is normal for online business, and it means your information is subject to the laws of those countries as well as Australian law.
If that concerns you, email admin@joydiving.com.au and tell us you would prefer we keep your details in Australia only. We will work with that.
How Long We Keep It
Enquiries that do not turn into work are deleted after two years.
Client records, invoices and purchase records are kept for seven years, because Australian tax law requires it.
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
Notes from workplace reviews are deleted once the report is delivered and the engagement is closed, unless the client has asked us in writing to hold them for longer.
Keeping It Safe
The site runs over an encrypted connection. Accounts are protected with strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Access is limited to Sarah Eagle and the small number of contractors who need it to do their work, each under a confidentiality agreement.
No system is perfect. If a breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the law requires.
Seeing, Correcting or Deleting Your Information
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you. You can ask us to fix anything that is wrong. You can ask us to delete it, and we will unless the law requires us to keep it.
Email admin@joydiving.com.au. You do not need to explain why you are asking, and you do not need to use any particular wording. We will respond within thirty days, and there is no charge.
If writing an email is a barrier for you, say so in one line and we will find another way.
If You Are Unhappy with How We Handled Your Information
Tell us first. Email admin@joydiving.com.au with the word "privacy" in the subject line. We will acknowledge it within five working days and give you a written answer within thirty days.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992. You do not need our permission to do that.
Changes to this policy
We review this page whenever the website changes and at least once a year. The date below tells you which version you are reading. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we will email you rather than quietly update the page.
