Conferences, festivals, expos, awards nights and member events are designed by people under time pressure, working from last year's run sheet. The design carries assumptions nobody wrote down: that everyone can stand in a queue, follow a spoken announcement, sit through ninety minutes without moving, and find a quiet space that was never put on the floor plan.
This is management consultancy on event design. It examines the run sheet, the program, the floor plan and the briefing material, finds where the design excludes people, and recommends alternatives that can be built into this year's event or the next one.
Two Audiences, One Piece of Work
Staff and volunteers are workers. Work design applies to them, and so does psychosocial hazard duty.
Delegates are not workers. What applies to them is event design and experience.
Joy Diving Australia keeps the two separate in every proposal and every report, because they are not the same in law and they are not the same in scope.
Boundary
This is not an accessibility audit. Joy Diving Australia does not certify an event or venue against the Disability Discrimination Act, the Premises Standards, or any accessibility standard, and does not tell an organiser whether an obligation has been met.
No individual delegate access plans. Recommendations and care structures are designed for everyone, and arranging support for a named delegate before the event is the organiser's job.

- Previous event feedbackDe-identified and in aggregate. Complaints, withdrawal patterns, and the questions the organiser gets asked every year.
Two Depths
Core
Desktop and interview based. No site visit. A scoping call with the organising committee, the review above, ranked recommendations, and a two-hour debrief workshop. About four weeks.
Deep-Dive
Everything in Core, plus the parts that need more than the run sheet. A venue review built from your floor plans, photos and a walk-through video your team records at the busiest point of a comparable event. Marked-up comment on your speaker briefing pack. A ninety-minute staff and volunteer briefing, delivered online before the event. A post-event debrief with the committee, and a written design note for next year while the detail is fresh.
What You Receive
- Findings report The delegate journey mapped, with exclusion points named at each stage.
- Ranked recommendations Across three timeframes: change this year, change next year, plan into the venue contract.
- Marked-up briefing material Your speaker brief and your pre-event delegate information, returned with comment on what excludes people and what to change. You write the new version.
- Facilitated debrief Two hours with the organising committee.
Staff and Volunteer Briefing
Ninety minutes, online, before the event, for the people who staff the registration desk, run the rooms, direct traffic and answer questions.
Practical rather than conceptual: what an overloaded delegate looks like, what to say, what not to say, where the quiet space is, and when to get someone else.

Care Team
Events that carry sensitive content need more than a content warning on a slide. Bereavement, suicide, abuse, disability, racism, mental illness: the material lands on speakers as well as delegates, and the person most exposed is often the one on stage telling the story.

All of it written down before the day, so nobody decides under pressure.
What Held, What Did Not, and What to Change Next Time.
After the event, a debrief with your care team lead and the committee. What the design did under load, where the quiet space was and was not used, and what the schedule did to the people in it. Written up as a design note for next year. No contact with delegates, no counselling, no assessment, and nothing recorded about anyone. Your care team handles people. Joy Diving Australia does not advise on or certify work health and safety compliance, conduct work health and safety audits, give legal advice, assess, screen, diagnose or treat anyone, or profile workers.
It does not write policies, procedures, care plans, learning plans or position descriptions. It can comment on how a draft affects work design, because the document itself stays with you.
Its work informs your own hazard identification and control decisions. You rate your own risk and own that rating throughout.
